A quaint town sitting pretty on the north-west coast of the island. It’s the perfect place to spend the day when you’re looking to discover an untouched area of coastline (of course this is relative since the island is a top tourist destination). It has more to offer than your average used and abused drinking strip. So if you’re looking to escape the hustle and bustle of Los Cristianos and Playa de las Americas then embrace the island’s true character and take the time to discover the hidden gems of Garachico!
Admire Roque de Garachico
Only a fairy-step away, Roque de Garachico sits perfectly lonely in the water just off the coast. Today it exists as a protected area because of its unique and niche flora and fauna. Despite its protection from human activity it is not sheltered from nature. Due to its exposure out in the sea, it is subject to a frequent battering every now and then. However, the location of the landmark does mean that it can be admired by passersby who may travel along the stretch of the coastline, or sighted from high up on the mountains.
Relax By The Natural Swimming Pools
Aside from the Roque, the Piscinas Naturales De Garachico El Caletón are a huge tourist attraction, especially during the summer months when the temperature in Tenerife is at its warmest. The pools are most often avoided during the latter half of the year when the weather takes a turn. Winter storms and heavy downpours can sometimes cause the bridgeways between pools to collapse. But when the weather’s good, life is good. There is nothing more relaxing than the sun shining down, warm sea water hugging bodies and the ambience created by surround sound, swooshing waves.
Rehydrate and Carb Up
Canada de Garachico Espacio Gastronomico is dubbed one of the best restaurants in Garachico in position #2 Tripadvisor. The local restaurant offers both lighter dishes to fill a small hole and sumptuous dishes that have the potential induce a food coma. The chef’s recommended dish is a hollowed-out bread which is then stuffed to the brim with a melting pot of mouth-watering cheese, salty bacon, crunchy onions and soft mushrooms – all of which is encircled by bruschettine for extra dipping power!
Wander Over To The Square
The town is only small so even for the laziest of visitors it won’t take long to stroll around town and swoon at its charming character. Leading off from the square is a small green garden dotted with Birds- of-Paradise and an arch structure at its heart, what a sweet hidden secret. There are also a number of hikes in the area so if you’re up for seeing some instagram worthy views, the extra milage up onto higher ground is worthwhile.
